Onboard of our Hybridboats we placed different Hybrid - Systems:

Serial hybrid drive

In the SIMMER Twirre, our Simmerskip 1200 AK * cruise-hybrid there is a so-called serial hybrid drive placed, here the internal combustion engine and electric motor are fitted in succession, as the following figure represents. The drive shaft is held purely electric. The internal combustion engine by means of a generator provides the electrical energy that is stored both in the batteries, as well as the electric motor drives. Unlike a car plays a very significant weight of the batteries on board a boat, a minor role. So on board the SIMMER Twirre about 2,500 pounds of batteries available. This is about six hours at 9 Km / h travel time possible solely on battery power.

A gearbox is in this list is not required since the electric motors (on the SIMMER Twirre are two engines installed) directly to the shaft (s drive)..

Parallel Hybrid Drive

On our two Duetvletten 980 AK, and the RUZER STRUZER we have built a parallel hybrid drive (see diagram below). Both ships, yet the road with conventional diesel engines, can now be driven electrically. On board there are now two independent propulsion systems installed that power the ship. Thus, these two models become much safer, should one drive fail its job, can still be continued on the other drive. .

The permitted capacity of the batteries is approximately 2.5 hours to be traveling at 8 km/h. In this installation, the electric motor acts as actuator for diesel generator and recharges the batteries.
