Although there is no sign of the peat-cutters and ship-hunters anymore the history of the peat-winning and peat-trade is still to be felt along the Turfroute through Friesland, Noordwest-Overijssel en Drenthe. Age-long the peat-skippers transported over a network of rivers and channels the peat which was digged in the peat-areas. The Turfroute with a classic riber boat is a beautiful journey through a varied area. The villages on the way are friendly halting-places and also the hinterland offers many sights and beautiful scenery, to take you bicycle on board is certainly worth while. A route with lots of locks and also self-service bridges. The sailing-time per day is also determined by the opening-hours of the bridges and also the number of ships, who are together with you on the way. Experience isn't required, but is in our favour.
