The 2 week tour of Ghent-Brussels takes you from the port of Ghent, the Scheldt via Dendermonde (where the river Dender reacht in the Scheldt) to Willebroek in the province of Antwerp. Of particular interest is the bridge of Willebroek, also called the Bridge of Sighs, and the officially name is peace bridge in the center of Willebroek over the canal Brussels-Scheldt.
From here it is only a short distance to Brussels. Landmarks and features to list here would be beyond the scope, it is worth while to remain here two nights.
We continue the route direction then Hall (Hall is located on the Senne, the city center on the left bank. The river is here accompanied by the canal Charleroi-Brussels and crossed, still the breadbasket of Brussels) to Thieu, here you have to overcome a height difference of more than 73 meters with a boatlift. The old boat lift can be visited today. About Peruwelz reach Tournai, with its well-preserved medieval old town. Particularly interesting are the Cathedral.
You pass Bossuit, a small village where the canal meets Kortrijk-Bossuit on the Scheldt and continue to Kortrijk. Kortrijk lies about 9 kilometers from the French border and has lots of tourist attractions: the Beguine, St. Martin Church, with its five top tower, the old St. Mary's Church, the Broelentore on the Lys and the marketplace. After a trip to Roeselare you go down direction Deinze and then on the last day on the Lys back to Gent again.
This route is not suitable for beginners. Some waterways will be on tidal waters, there are, especially at the beginning of the route much traffic with cargo ships. The twi weeks tour is not suitable for the Simmerskip 900 OK.
