In the year 1969 the Lauwersmeer resulted from the building of a dyke from the Lauwerszee - open sea became the lake. A piece of the Wattenmeer disappeared. From it a singular landscape, a nature area with innumerable kinds plants and birds developed. Water became country, seawater became fresh water. The Lauwersmeer became one of the most attractive recreation areas. On the Lauwersmeer it is absolutely important to adhere to with buoys and partially with staken marked channels. Many free over night places are here in nature, ... With a longer route (2 weeks) it offers itself to spend one night in the yachting port from Lauwersoog and go by the ferry for one day to Schiermonnikoog too.
